Meet Dr. Lakner

A Rockville native continuing 45 years of trusted podiatric care in the community he grew up in.

Dr. Alex Lakner, DPM

Podiatric Surgeon

Dr. Alex Lakner is a podiatric surgeon who is honored to take the reins from Dr. Mark Levy and continue the excellent care Dr. Levy provided this community for 45 years, now under the name Rockville Podiatry. He is truly grateful to be entrusted with the care of Dr. Levy's patients and to carry forward the legacy of excellence he built here in Rockville.

Dr. Lakner's practice spans general podiatry, with a specialization in diabetic limb salvage, wound care, and reconstructive techniques, and he draws on every available resource to achieve the best possible outcome for each patient. His approach centers on dedicated, personal care and patient satisfaction, with an emphasis on conservative, non-surgical treatment whenever possible. When surgery is necessary, Dr. Lakner is trained in the most advanced techniques, designed to get you back to form in minimal time. He is Board Qualified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery.

Training and expertise

Raised in Rockville, Dr. Lakner is happy to be back serving the community he grew up in. He earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where a minor in studio art helped hone his dexterity and creativity. He completed his podiatric medical education at Temple University in Philadelphia and, enjoying the city, stayed for residency at Jefferson Health in the New Jersey suburbs of Philadelphia, training in all aspects of podiatry.

Seeking to further his knowledge, Dr. Lakner completed a fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, with an emphasis on diabetic limb salvage and wound care in the Department of Vascular Surgery. The fellowship showed him the importance of multidisciplinary care: learning from each specialty's perspective on the many disease processes involved helps him treat his patients through multiple lenses.

Through extensive research and hands-on implementation, Dr. Lakner also learned the importance of footwear modification and orthotics for patients with diabetes, and how to use the most advanced technology available to prevent re-ulceration in this most at-risk population. He brings this specialized knowledge to Rockville Podiatry and is excited to get you walking with ease.

Outside the office

Dr. Lakner lives in Rockville with his wife, Erica, and their cavapoo puppy, Figment (“Figgy”). In his free time he enjoys staying active, including going to the gym, playing golf, rock climbing, sailing, and skiing. He's also an avid traveler, so ask him for recommendations, especially Disney World and skiing in Colorado! And he loves to cook, always on the lookout for a new recipe to try.

Dear Valued Patient,

After many fulfilling years caring for this wonderful community, the time has come for me to announce my retirement from active practice. This is not a decision I have made lightly. Serving as your podiatrist has been one of the greatest privileges of my professional life, and I am deeply grateful for the trust you have placed in me over the years.

I am pleased to share that I am transitioning the practice to Dr. Alex Lakner, DPM, of Rockville Podiatry, P.C., who will be carrying on the care and commitment you have come to expect at this practice. I want to assure you that your podiatric needs will remain in excellent hands.

Dr. Lakner brings a fresh, contemporary perspective to podiatric medicine, paired with an exceptional depth of training. He earned his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree from the Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine, completed his residency at Jefferson Health–New Jersey, and went on to complete a fellowship in diabetic limb salvage and wound care at the prestigious Johns Hopkins Hospital. His advanced expertise in complex wound care and limb preservation, sports medicine, and gait analysis, combined with his passion for comprehensive podiatric health and podiatric surgery, ensures that you will receive the highest standard of care.

This transition will take place gradually over the next few months, and I will remain present and available at the practice throughout that time to ensure a smooth and seamless handover. Any existing appointments you have scheduled will be honored without interruption, and your medical records will transfer automatically and securely to Rockville Podiatry. There is nothing you need to do.
